Back from holidays!

Well, just back from 6 weeks in Spain. The first 2 were cold & cloudy but after that it gradually got warmer, so much so that on Saturday it was so hot I couldn't sit out in it & I went to see what the temperature was in the car & it said it was 47 degrees! & that was at 4 in the afternoon! The Spanish don't know how lucky they are, when we flew back into Glasgow airport you notice how dull the light is, apart from the cold!

We were there again for their fiesta, The Fallas, it's just held in the Valencia region & they built these huge papier mache sculptures & then set fire to them! In Valencia this year there were 800 but in the town we were in there were 20. The whole town gets involved & there are mascletas, fire crackers, set off from 7am - long past midnight!

This is the one of the main Fallas.

This is one of the Children's Fallas, this was my favourite, there's so much detail in them.

These are the Falleras dressed up & they parade around the different districts of the town accompanied by a band. The dresses are stunning & the whole outfits can cost upto 13,000 euros each, as they have hair pieces which are made of gold.

This is one of the bands going up the main street, you can't see it in the photo but the band master is conducting with a flower!

After the main parade the Falleras all have bouquets which are placed in this statue outside the church. The cloak is completely made from flowers, with the designs being made from different coloured flowers.
This is 1 of the streets decorated for the fiesta, it's in 1 of the oldest parts of town, the road leads up to castle, which dates back to Roman times.
